![]() According to her music video, she is Afro-Latina.Her pet Crescent, was a cat in past incarnations. Her accessories are consisted of golden crescent moon-shaped earring and piercings, a golden moon-decorated belt and a moon necklace with a lilac gem and crescent-moon and star-shaped pendants around her neck. Her outfit consists of a short purple overalls with jaguar spots printed on it, a long-sleeved black shirt with red stripes, lilac and yellow shoes and yellow frame glasses. In addition, her hair is less voluminous and messy as it is in her werewolf form. In fact, Clawdeen has a large family consisting of four generations of grandparents and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Clawdeen was born the middle child out of several siblings throughout the Monster High franchise. She also wears glasses.Īs a human, Clawdeen's appearance is nearly exactly the same, except that she shows no werewolf traits (wolf ears, extra fur, sharp claws) having human traits instead. Clawdeen Lucia Wolf is the teenage daughter of well respected werewolves Clawrk and Harriet Wolf. She wears her hair loose with one bun on the top. As her werewolf heritage, she has white fangs, sharp claws, extra fur on her body and wolf ears, her wolf claws are colored a light lilac. She possesses yellow eyes, freckles on her face and purple curly hair that has multiple shades of purple and pink. She is a light-skinned girl and has a medium build. However, Clawdeen was able to make friends with the monsters, she's BFFs with Frankie and Draculaura and is close friends with Deuce, she always helps and supports her friends in whoever or whatever they want to be. But due to her interest in monsters, Clawdeen had always been an outcast in the human world, the other teenagers her age make fun of her and call her "creep", "weird" and mostly "monster girl". Clawdeen has shown to be very persistent, after Bloodgood didn't allow Clawdeen in the school because she was human, the girl tried many ways to get into it (mostly wearing monsters disguises). She is enthusiastic and friendly, upon discovering Monster High, she was thrilled into joining it. I wouldn’t send her hate, but imo, people are rightfully upset.Even before discovering she was half-werewolf, Clawdeen had been a monster fangirl since childhood. Time and time again, a character has their skintone lightened, their features erased. Characters like Clawdeen are inspiration to darkskin black girls, a chance to see themselves on the screen, have a cool doll that look like them to play with. How could that not happen when almost all main, side, and supporting characters are lightskin, or much more often, straight up white. Favoring lighter skin and less prominent Afro centric features is ingrained in everyone at a young age, knowingly or not. Told to bleach their skin, relax their hair. Told their hair is too nappy, skin too dark, lips too big. But Darkskin black woman get it the worst. In society, black people are constantly overlooked and harassed because of their skin and features. She is beautiful, and I’m sure she’s a great actress, but this role doesn’t match her.Ĭasting people with different skintones than the original person or character (which almost always results in the character being lightskin and/or racially ambiguous) has colorist and featurist (favoring certain typically ethic features over others) implications. That’s on Mattel, though, not the actress.ĭark skin black woman are upset because Clawdeen is dark skin, and this actress is not. ![]() Seller information Clawdeen Mattel Monster High Clawdeen Wolf Doll 2016 Condition: Used Price: US 11. ![]() I agree that there are darker actresses who could’ve played her, but the casting process is done. I don’t think it necessarily sounds like a great metaphor, but that looks like the directon they’re going. You’re free to disagree, I’m just theorizing. Doesn’t seem like that big of a jump to me. It seems to me like Clawdeen’s struggle over her half-human/half-werewolf identity is meant to have a deeper allegorical meaning past the literal “She’s a werewolf girl going to a monster high school!” plot. And I don’t see them making her canonically LGBTQ anytime soon, unfortunately. It seems strange to me that Mattel would choose Clawdeen to be the new main character if it wasn’t to explore the new core themes of the reboot. Mattel has said themselves that Monster High’s reboot is going to focus on themes of diversity, inclusivity, and identity. Steven Universe includes LGBTQ allegories about sentient space rocks. Kids media uses allegories for complex issues that aren’t exactly 1-to-1 all the time.
